Lot 4137 SMITH & WESSON NO.1 2ND ISSUE SA REVOLVER.

Cal. 22 S. S# 34159. Bbl. 3 1/4". Round brass blade front sight. Frame & bbl. have matching assembly numbers. Cyl. has different assembly number. No. 1 2nd issue revolver. There is a faint inscribed name on bottom of grip frame that appears to read "HUGHES". Consignor states this was J.R. Hughes who rode with infamous Texas Outlaw Johnny Ringo. Hughes died in 1899 in New Mexico. Brass frame with silver plated finish. Smooth hardwood grips with matching numbered right panel. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: modern fake book gun case. CONDITION: grips have an older dark added varnish with scattered light chipping, flaking & handling marks. Bbl. assembly, ejector & cyl. are mostly a gray patina with oxidation & some moderate pitting. Frame & grip straps retain 30% silver plate with overall flaking showing brass underneath, some light pitting, oxidation spots & handling marks. Cyl. spins freely when hammer is at full cock & will require attention to fix. Bore shows overall pitting but visible rifling. (01-27888/MJC). ANTIQUE. $800-1,200.
